UCSD Health Sciences Biomedical Research Facility

McCarthy is building a 196,000-square-foot, $105 million five-story Health Sciences Biomedical Research Facility located on a 3.3-acre site within the School of Medicine campus at the University of California, San Diego. The project team is targeting LEED platinum certification. Designed by ZGF Architects, LLP, the facility will fit into the modern design context of the School of Medicine’s academic mall; its exterior incorporating a combination of concrete, curtain wall, metal panels, and terra cotta cladding. The facility will house wet labs, open lab space, lab support, and administrative space on five stories above ground, with core lab space and support mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in the basement.
